Andrew Harter and Jacob Schofel Break School Records; Tratans Win Annual Quad Meet

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team hosted its annual Carnegie Mellon Quad on Saturday. The Tartans turned in 10 first-place finishes as the team to win the quad with 221 points. Penn State Behrend finished second with 177 points.

In the 3,000-meter run, junior Andrew Harter (Saratoga, Calif.) led the sweep crossing in a school record time of 8:38.39. The previous record of 8:41.63 was held by junior Jared Moore (Beaver Dams, N.Y. / Corning-Painted Post) who placed third in the vent on Saturday with a career-best time of 8:41.11. Junior Will Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.) finished between Harter and Moore with a career-best time of 8:40.63.

Senior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston) placed first in the discus with a school record toss of 47.55 meters. The senior broke James Hulley's mark of 47.40 meters set in 2010. Freshman Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) placed second with a throw of 47.06 meters. Shofel also won the hammer throw with a mark of 55.82 meters and took second in the shot put with a mark of 13.67 meters. Miller claimed top honors in the shot put with a throw of 15.00 meters.

Sophomore Harry Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y. / Brooklyn Technical) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:44.87 while the Tartans swept the top three places with sophomore Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y.) and senior Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) finishing second and third. Hartshorne crossed in 9:50.08 and Auld in 10:05.64.

In the 1,500-meter run, sophomore Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) placed first with a time of 4:00.80 and sophomore Liam Walsh(Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) took second with a time of 4:01.68.

Freshman Arthur Dzieniszewski (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge), junior Mark Moody (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) and senior Evan Larrick (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville North) claimed the top three spots in the 800-meter run. Dzieniszewski crossed in 1:57.03, Moody in 1:57.52 and Larrick in 1:57.92.

In the last running event of the day, the Tartans claimed the top spot in the 4x400 relay. The team of Larrick, junior Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton), graduate student Tanguy Dauphin (Port-au-Prince, Haiti / Cardinal Spellman) and freshman Grant Johnson (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) crossed in 3:26.03.

The triple jump saw the Tartans claim the top three spots. Senior Eloy Fernandez (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) leapt 13.72 meters while sophomore Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) marked at 12.98 meters to place second. Junior Reed Farber (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) placed third with a jump of 12.69 meters.

Senior Tommy Mansfield (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) cleared 4.38 meters in the pole vault to win the event.
