CWRU Claims Five All-UAA Honors; Finishes Fourth at UAA Championships

The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team claimed five all-conference honors during the second day of the 2018 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as the squad placed fourth at the meet, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Spartan men finished fourth out of seven teams at the meet, scoring 88.5 points during the two days of competition. Washington won the conference title with 248 points, and was followed in the standings by Carnegie Mellon (162 points) and Chicago (102 points).

Senior Grant Mlack ran a time of 15.47 seconds in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles to finish second in the event, while sophomore Dominic Oddo added an eighth-place finish in the event with a time of 15.88 seconds. Oddo earned an All-UAA finish in the 400-meter hurdles as he finished third in the event with a time of 54.47 seconds, while Mlack placed sixth in the event with a time of 55.79 seconds.

Adding All-UAA finishes on the second day of the meet were senior Aidan DeSanto and senior Andrew Ibibo. DeSanto finished third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:00.11. Ibibo finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.14 seconds, while sophomore Jonathan Haling placed sixth in the event with a time of 50.49.

Ibibo, Oddo, Haling and sophomore Michael Hradesky also teamed up in the 4x400-meter relay to finish third in the event with a time of 3:20.22.

Other scoring performances from the Spartans on Sunday came from Ibibo in the 200-meter dash (fourth, 22.90), Hradesky in the 800-meter run (fourth, 1:55.18), freshman Jordan Butler(fourth, 1.85m) and freshman Kai Fletcher (tied eighth, 1.75m) in the high jump, senior Ben Zelkin in the 100-meter dash (seventh, 11.46), freshman Skyler Wadas in the javelin throw (seventh, 45.02m) and senior Jason Lockamy in the discus throw (eighth, 39.23m).

In addition, the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Zelkin, senior Zak Hurd, sophomore Darius Inzar and freshman Joe Dinko placed fourth in the event with a time of 43.52.

Altogether, the Spartans accumulated seven All-UAA honors during the meet, including Oddo's third-place finish in the long jump and junior Tyler Bushman's third place finish hammer throw on the first day of competition.
