Charlie Hu of Emory Wins Long Jump Title on Day One of UAA Championships

Senior Charlie Hu led the Emory University Men's Track and Field team on day one of the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships, winning the long jump event. The Eagles sit in fourth place through one day of competition with 29 points.

Hu posted a winning mark of 6.78m to earn the title, edging out Washington's Ezugo Onejeme by .08 meters. It is the first time in Hu's career he claimed All-UAA honors in the outdoor event.

Junior Zachary Lembersky and sophomore Michael Battat added points for the Eagles in field events with Lembersky taking fourth in the hammer throw at 46.44m and Battat placing seventh in the long jump at 6.21m.

In finals of the running events, the 4x800m Relay of Thomas Perretta, Samuel Branson, Jacob Hedgepeth and Max Brown paced Emory on the afternoon as the group finished second overall with a time of 7:47.23 to earn All-UAA honors. Junior Bennett Shaw added points for the Eagles as he finished fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:31.02.

Senior Benjamin Rogin led the Emory men in the preliminaries of the track events, posting the top qualifying time in both the 110m and 400m Hurdles as he threw down marks of 14.77 and 55.04, respectively. Freshman Liam Fost also qualified for tomorrow's championship final in the 400m Dash, running a personal-best time of 49.47 to finish fourth in prelims.
