The Emory University track and field program was saddened to hear of the recent passing of former student-athlete Chris Leahy, who succumbed to a battle with cancer.

Leahy competed four years for the Eagles (2000-03), specializing in the mid-distance events, and endeared himself to his teammates and coaching staff with his dedication and selflessness.

He graduated from Emory as a double major in political science and economics.  In addition to his participation in track and field, Chris was a member of both Phi Eta Sigma and the Political Science Honor Society. After obtaining his degree, he returned to his native St. Louis, Mo., where he had been working.

"Chris was the ultimate team guy," stated Emory head track and field coach John Curtin.  "He was not the most physically talented kid, but nobody cared more or gave more to the team.  He was always there for me and the team.  He fought cancer the way he competed as a runner.  He gave his all and God knows we will all miss him."

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday June 9 at Incarnate Word Catholic Church in Chesterfield, MO (13416 Olive Boulevard). Prior to the mass, a wake will be held at 9:30 am.
