NYU Begins Outdoor Season in Miami

The New York University men's track & field team opened the outdoor season by competing at the Miami Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami in Miami, FL on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.

Max Mudd came running out of the gates for his senior outdoor debut in the 1,500m. The Louisville, KY, native secured fourth place by registering a time of 4:10.45. Fellow senior Robert Beit and sophomore Connor Riley also finished with top-10 performances by placing seventh (4:11.34) and ninth (4:13.21), respectively.

"Mudd is a guy we are going to look to depend on to battle for points," said Hurtault. "Glad to see him starting off strong."

Also in the distance, senior Jordan Reyes paced the Violets with a 11th-place performance in the 800m. The Temecula, CA, native clocked a career-best time of 2:00.84 to lead fellow Violets freshman Shawn Andrade (2:04.75) and junior Ben Haderle (2:06.54), who finished in 16th and 19th, respectively.

Daniel Sovich impressed with his first 400m hurdles in his senior season. The Aurora, OH, native placed 13th with a time of 58.46.

"It was one of his best times coming off a very tough week of training," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "He took advantage of the weather."

Following an impressive indoor season, freshman Zavy Miller launched his outdoor collegiate career by finishing 26th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.18. Freshman Jonathan Coaxum, sophomore Robin Takami and freshman Tomatse Ogedegbe placed behind in 31st (11.81), 33rd (11.96) and 35th (12.00), respectively.

HIGHLIGHTS: 

- Miller returned for the 200m dash where he finished 43rd with a time of 23.18. Takami, freshman Zachary Adams and freshman Payton Prendergast fell behind in 50th (24.40), 51st (25.24) and 52nd (26.30) place, respectively.

- Ogedegbe returned to take 16th in the long jump, clearing a distance of 6.27m. Trailing behind in 19th and 20th were Adams (6.11m) and junior Yohan Su (6.10m).

- On Friday, two-time UAA Indoor high jump champion William Lee finished in ninth place in the high jump. The junior cleared a height of 1.90m.
