NYU Competes in Two Meets

The New York University men's track & field team took part in a pair of events on Friday-Saturday, March 30-31.

A contingent of the team hopped over the Hudson River to compete in the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ, while a few other Violets traveled south to take part in th Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.

At Ramapo, Freshman Zavy Miller scored four points for the Violets with his fifth-place finish in the 100m dash. The St. Louis, MO, native clocked a time of 11.38 after qualifying with a time of 11.43 in his preliminary run. The sprinter returned to place seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 23.05 to secure five more points.

NYU also found points from its distance runners as Jonathan Sussman paced the Violets with his 10th-placed finish in the 5,000m. The freshman from Ellicott City MD, recorded a time of 15:46.10. Following behind were seniors Grant Allington and Robert Beit in 17th (16:16.70) and 18th (16:17.56) place, respectively.

Sam Praveen was the sole Violet in the 3,000m steeplechase. The senior finished eighth by clocking a time of 10:44.62 to tally one point for the Violets.

The field saw freshman Isaac Floyd take seventh in his first long jump of the season. The Greenwich, CT, native cleared a distance of 6.28m. Junior Yohan Su and freshman Joseph Forrler trailed behind in 12th (5.93m) and 22nd (5.33m), respectively. Freshman Zachary Adams finished seventh in the triple jump by clearing a jump of 12.89m.

In Raleigh, NYU's 4x800m relay team of Vincent Booth, Soham Kamat, Karn Setya, and Benjamin Heintz placed ninth with time of 7:47.80.

The Montilus brothers competed in the 400m dash on Friday. Senior Malcolm Montilus led the pair with a 17th-placed finish (49.23). Sophomore Julian Montilus finished in 51st with a time of 51.43.
