UAA Announces 2018 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Awards

The UAA announced the 2018 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship awards. Graduate student Irie Gourde of Brandeis University and senior Jacob Schofel of Carnegie Mellon University earned top individual honors.

2018 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Honors

Gourde was named UAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Performer for running events, sweeping the 200- (22.32 seconds) and 400-meter (48.32 seconds) dashes. His preliminary time of 47.77 seconds in the 400 meters broke the Carnegie Mellon University stadium record and ranks sixth this season in NCAA Division III.

Schofel earned the UAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Performer award for field events. He won the hammer throw with a mark of 54.83 meters, which ranks 15th in NCAA Division III this season. Schofel also finished third in the shot put, four in the discus, and fifth in the javelin.

 

Bram Miller of the Tartans was chosen as UAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year after sweeping the shot put (15.50 meters) and discus (49.05) events. His throw in the discus broke the school record and ranks 14th in NCAA Division III this season.

Washington Head Coach Jeff Stiles and his staff were honored as the Coaching Staff of the Year for leading the Bears to the team title.
