Vincent Asante Paces Brandeis Men at Dartmouth

Senior Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for the Arts Imagination and Inquiry) finished third in the 60-meter dash, pacing the Brandeis indoor men's track and field team at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H., yesterday. The men tied with Middlebury College for ninth place overall at the meet, including fourth in Division III.

Asante cruised to seventh in preliminaries in the event, qualifying for the finals with a time of 7.12 seconds. The reigning UAA 55-meter champion cranked it up a notch in the final round, finishing in a blistering 6.98 seconds. The time was good for third overall in the event, second among Division III competitors. Asante qualified for the New England Division III Championships, the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships and the ECAC Championships, and also earned UAA Athlete of the Week Honors. His time was the eighth fastest in Division III so far this year, less than .05 seconds off of the second best mark.

Rookie Omar Scruggs (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) had the Judges' next best individual result, grabbing 15th in the 400 meter with a time of 52.73 seconds. Senior Mohamed Sidique (Harlem, N.Y./St. Raymond H.S. for Boys) placed 28th in the event 55.02 seconds, while rookie Jeremy Wilson's (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) time of 55.55 was good for 32nd. Sophomore Trevor Tuplin (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and rookie Josh Romanowicz (Peru, N.Y./Peru Central) finished 38th and 44th, respectively.

Sophomore Grady Ward (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) broke 4:30 in the mile, placing 17th with a time of 4:29.95. Rookie Matt Doran (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) and sophomore Liban Aiden (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) also ran the mile, placing in 45th and 63rd, respectively.

Rookie Quentin Hoey (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) rounded out the Brandeis competitors, finishing 30th in the 3000 with a time of 9:10.94.

The Judges fielded a pair of relay teams at the meet as well. The 4x200 squad consisting of Sidique, Wilson, Tuplin and Asante finished 14th with a time of 1:36.74. Sidique, Wilson, Tuplin and Scruggs ran the 4x400 in 3:43.05, good for 16th.
