From Washington University Athletics
For the third year in a row, the Washington University in St. Louis men's track & field team finished first at the I55 Triangular hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Washington U. men won six individual events on their way to scoring 133.50 points to win the team title for the third straight year in the meet's third year in existence. The University of Chicago finished second in the men's team standings with 98 points, while Illinois Wesleyan was third with 87.50 points. On the women's side, Chicago took home the team title with 121 points. Illinois Wesleyan was second with 110.50, and Washington U. placed third with 99.50.
Junior Nick Alaniva had a solid day for the Washington U. men, finishing first in two events and second in another. He won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.40 meters. Alaniva also edged senior Alan Komorowski by .002 to win the 60-meter dash as the two finished first and second with times of 7.163 and 7.165, respectively. Alaniva added a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.26m, while sophomore Alex Arteaga won with a leap of 6.47m.
Komorowski added a first-place finish in the men's 200 with a time of 22.81, while sophomore James Fitzhugh placed second in 23.34. Fitzhugh led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Bears in the 400 with a winning time of 51.37, while senior Arthur Townsend (53.10) and junior Brendan Stone (53.37) followed in second and third. The final event-winner for the Washington U. men was freshman Ethan Brodeur. He raced to first in the 800 with a time of 1:57.28, while sophomore Alex Bastian was second in 1:57.94. Brodeur also finished second in the 1200 in 3:06.53.
