From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's track & field team hosted the NYU Team Challenge on Friday, January 24, at the New Balance Track and Field Center in Manhattan. Athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools, as well as from several track clubs, competed.

There was no team scoring.

"Many team members ran season-bests today," said NYU Head Coach Nick McDonough. "Sprinter Matthew Powers improved in two events - the 60m and 200m. There were also a number of strong performances in the middle distance and distance events. Zac Kish with his 800m time (1:55.07) should be the University Athletic Association leader in the event. Our pole vaulters also had a good showing."

Powers placed fourth in the 200m (22.41) and 11th (7.17) in the 60m.

Kish opened his season in the 800m with a sixth-place finish. Max Avila set a personal best of 1:58.70 in the race, which was good for a top-20 finish (19th place). Curtis Mann knocked more than five seconds off his personal best with a time of 2:01.42 for 28th place.

Sebastian Oja, running in his first mile race of the season, had a strong finish spurt and won his heat with a personal-best time of 4:22.07. Dharan Kadiyala improved on last week's time by more than one second (4:23.12) and placed 14th.
