Sophomore sprinter Devon Belew (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) placed first in the 400-meter run, and the Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team finished fourth on the second and final day of the 2014 University Athletic Association Indoor Championship at Gosman Athletic Center.

Washington University in St. Louis won the team title with 160 points. Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) and Emory University (Ga.) finished second and third with respective scores of 102 and 70, while the Spartans finished with 48 markers. New York University (47), the University of Chicago (44) and host Brandeis University (23) rounded out the standings.

Belew ran a career-best 50.12 to win his first UAA Championship. After prelims, the second-year Spartan was seeded second with a time of 50.31.

Belew also ran anchor for the all sophomore 4x400m relay team which placed fifth with a time of 3:27.75. Jonathan Freeman (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) ran leadoff in front of Perry Billett (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and Abdallah Soliman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley).

In field events, junior Mark Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Venango Catholic) earned a fifth-place finish in the pole vault by clearing the bar at an indoor personal-best 14 feet, 11 inches.

The indoor season now comes to an end for all but one Spartan, senior captain Harry Weintraub (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson). Ranked near the top 10 in the nation in the weight throw, Weintraub figures to be selected to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship on March 14-15 at Knight Fieldhouse in Lincoln, Nebraska.

An All-American in the hammer throw, Weintraub shattered the conference meet record yesterday with a throw of 61 feet, five inches.
