Spartans Open Indoor Season With Four Individual Titles at Holiday Classic

The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team opened the 2014-15 season as hosts of the second annual Spartan Holiday Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Veale Center.

The Spartans won four individual titles and swept both the mile run and the 400-meter dash.

With a time of 4:36.45, freshman Aidan DeSanto (McCordsville, Ind./Cathedral) was first to cross the finish line in the mile run. Junior Gilad Doron (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) and sophomore Patrick Leo (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) rounded out the sweep by stopping the clock at 4:37.60 and 4:45.20, respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, three different Spartans completed the second sweep of the meet. Sophomore Nico Ericksen-Deris (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) finished the race with a time of 51.73 and was followed closely by junior Jonathan Freeman (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) with a time of 51.90. Sophomore Nate Wahner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) completed the sweep in 52.20.

Also on the track, freshman Andrew Ibibo (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay East) grabbed the title in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:01.66. Freshman Grant Mlack (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) placed runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.11.  In the 55-meter dash, sophomore Zeesha Braslawsce (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) crossed the finish line third with a time of 6.81.

Sophomore Graeham Heil (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the Spartans in the field finishing second in both the triple jump and the high jump with marks of 41-08.50 and 6-00.00, respectively.

In the pole vault, senior Mark Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Venango Catholic) took the title by clearing the bar at 14-11.00.
