Maroons Capture Private College Invitational Title

The University of Chicago men's track and field team won the title at the Private School Championships at Carthage College on Saturday.

The Maroon men collected five wins on the afternoon, with much of their success coming in the middle and long distance races. UChicago swept through on four-straight distance events, starting with freshman Mitchell Dennis winning the 800 meters in 1:59.31. Sophomore Gareth Jones followed up by narrowly edging out the runner-up by 0.7 seconds in the one mile (4:31.22). Senior Renat Zalov dusted his 3,000-meter opponents by 14.19 seconds, winning in 9:14.44. Sophomore Eyal Hanfling finished the streak by taking the 5,000 meters by 18.39 seconds (16:02.25).

Junior Nicholas Lyon represented in the field events by winning the pole vault. Three different vaulters tied at 4.15 meters and Lyon earned the victory based on total number of attempts.
