Thomas Vandenberg of Carnegie Mellon Advances at NCAA Championships

Senior Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, March 13 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with Roanoke College serving as the official host.  The senior advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.

In Vandenberg's first race of the championships, he crossed the line with a time of 49.05 in the 400 which was the fourth fastest in the prelims.  The senior then competed an hour-and-twenty minutes later in the prelims of the 800-meter run and turned in the third fastest time of 1:53.43, a season-best.   

Vandenberg will attempt to repeat as an All-American in the 800-meter run on Saturday at 3:55 p.m. The senior placed fourth in 2014 with a career-best indoor time of 1:51.77. Before taking the track for the 800, he will compete in the finals of the 400-meter dash at 2:45 p.m.  Fellow senior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) will also compete on Saturday, as he will run in the finals of the 3,000-meter run on Saturday.
