The Washington University in St. Louis men's indoor track & field team won five individual events at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Invitational Saturday at Monmouth College.
The Washington U. men dominated the distance events, winning the 800, mile, 3,000 and 5,000. Sophomore Britt Henderson (1:57.22) and junior Alex Bastian (1:57.60) raced to the top-two spots in the 800, while sophomore Conor Cashner clocked a career-best time (1:58.71) to finish fifth. The Bears had four of the top five finishers in the mile, with junior Josh Clark winning the event in 4:15.31. Sophomore Jimmy Qiao placed second (4:27.54), while junior Alex Goldberg (4:33.91) and senior Ryan Senci (4:33.92) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Bears swept the top four finishes in the men's 3,000, with junior Adam Streicher clocking a career-best time of 8:45.48 to win the event. Sophomore Dillon Williams was second in 8:46.20, while sophomore Ryan Becker (8:47.68) and junior Peter Metz (8:52.98) both posted career-bests to place third and fourth, respectively. Freshman Ian Whittall (15:45.90), sophomore Zach Teed (15:49.55) and junior Jeff Bonin (15:51.91) posted a first- through third-place sweep in the 5,000.
Senior Troy Makous cleared a season-best height of 4.75 meters to win the men's pole vault. Senior Nick Alaniva and freshman Jacob Rother both cleared 4.45m to finish second and third, respectively. Alaniva also equaled his career best to place second in the long jump (6.66m), and was fourth in the 60 in 7.10.
The Washington U. men had four other top-four finishes at the meet. Senior Brendan Stone (50.80) and junior James Fitzhugh (50.89) both ran season-best times to place second and fourth, respectively, in the 400. Sophomore Jack MacCarthy placed third in the 60 hurdles in a season-best time of 8.76, while sophomore Mark Terng recorded a season-best leap of 13.11m to place third in the triple jump.
