Mark Franklin, Ryan Stender Lead Judges at Home Opener

The Brandeis University track and field teams had a fine performance today at their only home meet of the season, the Reggie Poyau Memorial Inviational. The women were first out of six teams, while the men were second of five. The Judges took home nine individual first-place finishes on the day – five for the women, four for the men.

FOR THE BRANDEIS MEN

  • Fitchburg State won the meet over Brandeis, 144-111. Bentley was next (99), followed Regis (53) and Wheelock (14).
  • The Judges were terrific in the 200-meter dash, taking the top three spots. Rookie Henry McDonald (Weymouth, Mass. / Weymouth) won his heat and the race with a time of 23.77 seconds. Senior Adam Berger (Concord, N.H. / Concord) finished second overall with a time of 24.48 seconds to win his heat, while another first-year, Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Reg.) Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Reg.) finished behind McDonald in the first heat and third overall with a mark of 24.52 seconds.
  • McDonald later added a second-place finish in the 400 with a time of 52.60 seconds.
  • Berger had a victory of his own on the day, taking the triple jump with a distance of 12.50 meters (41 feet, ¼ inch).
  • Junior Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H. / Pinkerton Acad.) added a second win in a field event, taking the high jump with a height 1.88 meters (6 feet, 2 inches). He tied a lifetime best and is currently ranked 48th in Division III.
  • Sophomore Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) leapt into the NCAA Division III ranking with his win in the mile run. He shaved nearly four seconds off his lifetime best with a time of 4:22.28 and now ranks 11th in Division III.

FOR THE BRANDEIS WOMEN

  • The Judges edged Wellesley, 125-121, for the top spot. They were followed by Fitchburg State (65), Regis (57), Bentley (56) and Wheelock (21).
  • Rookie Doyin Ogundiran (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) improved to 3-for-3 in individual races in college with a 10-second victory in the 800-meter run. She posted a time of 2:30.73.
  • Classmate Kanya Brown (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst Regional) won the 55-meter dash for her first collegiate victory. She ran 7.64 second in the prelims, the fastest by 0.28 seconds, then posted a 0.21-second win in the finals with a season-best time of 7.60 seconds.
  • Another first-year, cross country All-American Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./No. Quincy) won her first college indoor race, capturing the mile with a time of 5:13.48. It's currently the eighth-fastest time in Division III this season.
  • Junior Maddie Dolins (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) turned in a top Division III time in winning the 3,000-meter run. She ran 10:32.88, currently 19th in the nation.
  • The team's final win came in the 1,600-meter relay, where senior Tove Freeman(Oakham, Mass. / Quabbin Regional), Brown, rookie Ramani Dayon (Newark, N.J. / University) and Ogundiran turned in a time of 4:20.73.
