Judges Win Four Events at UMass Boston Invitational

The Brandeis University indoor track and field teams had four winners today as the Judges opened the season at the UMass Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The event of the day for the Judges was the mile run, which saw Brandeis runners take the top two spots in both the men's and women's race. 

For the men in the mile, sophomore Roger LaCroix (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) had a strong start and held off senior teammate Grady Ward (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) by three-tenths of a second. LaCroix finished in 4:27.69, while Ward ran 4:27.99. Sophomore Max Whitmore (Wayne, N.J. / Newark Academy) also placed fifth with a time of 4:34.24.

On the men's side, the next-highest finish came in the 800 meters, where junior Matt Becker (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuck Regional) came in fifth with a time of 2:01.81. Former basketball team member Evan Scott (North Kingstown, R.I. / North Kingstown) placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches) in his first collegiate meet.
