The New York University men's track & field team had its first outing of the 2016 indoor season this Friday, January 15, at the Ramapo Season Opener at the Armory in Manhattan.

The Violets captured third place (65 points) out of 18 teams, trailing only meet winners Rowan University (123 points) and The College of New Jersey (77 points).

NYU was led by junior Budd Brown, who posted aschool record-breaking 500-meter run witha winning time of 1:04.83. The previous 500-meter record (1:04.96) was set by Daniel McKinney in 2011.

"It was really great to see in the first meet of the year," said Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "Great to see him break a school record. It was an impressive run."

In his collegiate-indoor debut, freshman Soham Kamat took seventh place (1:08.58) behind Brown.

NYU continued its success in the middle-distance races. Junior Nick Karam secured first place in the mile with a time of 4:23.26. Following close behind were sophomores Max Mudd (4:25.77) and Karn Setya (4:26.84) at fourth and sixth places, respectively. Setya registered a career-best time as well.

"Amazing start for Nick," added Boylan-Pett."He had neglative splits after each trip around the track. Very good start for him. If he keeps up this pace, he can make a run at UAA's and even Nationals."

In the 1,000 meters, upperclassmen Curtis Mann (2:35.12) and Eddie Cruz-Desintonio (2:38.13) placed in the top-10 with third and seventh place finishes, respectively.
