NYU Trio Earns Regional Honors

Three members of the New York University men's track & field team have earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Atlantic Region.

Senior captain and sprinter Matthew Powers recieved regional recognition for his performances in the 200m and 60m. The Natick, MA, native will be representing NYU at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, in the 200m after recording a personal-best and NYU-record time of 21.63 (adjusted to 22.02) at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on February 13.

Fellow captain Budd Brown was also awarded regional honors for his performances in the 200m and the 400m. The junior will join Powers at the NCAA Championships, having qualified for the 400m event. The Baldwin, NY, native posted a personal-best of 48.22 (adjusted to 49.00) at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on February 27-28.

Junior distance runner Jorge Maldonado was named All-Atlantic Region in the 5,000m for clocking a career-best time of 14:43.60 at the Tufts Univiersity Qualifying Meet on Friday, March 4.

The Indoor season will conclude this weekend at nationals, which will be hosted by Grinnell College. The meet will take place in Grinnell, IA, and competition is set to begin at 10:00 am on Friday.
