The New York University men's track & field team participated in the Boston University Valentine's Invitational on Saturday, February 13, in Boston, MA.

The Violets encountered competition from all three NCAA divisions.

Senior captain Matthew Powers recorded a new school record in the 200m with a time of 21.63 to place ninth. The previous record of 21.83 was set by Powers during his freshman year.

"His hard work is obviously paying off," said Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "He's been working hard for a long time now and it really showed off today. No surprise with the result."

The Violets' 4x400m relay team of Powers, sophomore Macolm Montilus, junior Curtis Mann, and junior Budd Brown placed 11th in a time of 3:18.64, falling short of the school record by less than two seconds.

"Another great race by those guys," Boylan-Pett said. "Week by week, we are progressing and inching closer to breaking that record that we really have our sights on."

Sophomore Max Mudd paced the Violets in the 3,000m by finishing 83rd in 8:38.71. Finishing close to one another, sophomore Karn Setya and junior Nick Karam placed 92nd and 94th in 8:40.83 and 8:41.52, respectively. Sophomore Neil Saddler took 113th in a time of 8:45.63.

Representing the Violets in the 400m was 28th-place finisher Brown, who posted a time of 48.79. Montilus crossed the finish line in a time of 50.39 to come in 89th place. Junior Fred Lam finished 139th with the time of 51.57.

"The University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships are right around the corner," stated Boylan-Pett. "Our top guys are going to rest up before continuing on their progress by preparing for our toughest contest of the season."
