The Washington University in St. Louis men's track & field team won four events to finish second at the Engineer Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday.
The WashU men won the 1,600 relay as seniors James Fitzhugh, Alex Bastian and Britt Henderson and junior Deko Ricketts clocked a winning time of 3:25.21. Fitzhugh, Bastian and Ricketts also teamed with freshman Matt Whitehill to finish third in the 800 relay in 1:33.73. Ricketts added a third-place finish in the 400 with a time of 51.18.
Juniors Mike Sullivan (1:57.01) and Conor Cashner (1:57.45) both ran career-best times to take the top two spots in the men's 800. The Bears had four of the top-six finishers in the event. The other two first-place finishes for the WashU men came in the field events. Senior Joey Pasquecleared a season-best 1.95 meters to win the high jump. Sophomore Ezugo Onejeme won the triple jump with a leap of 12.56m. Sophomore Jacob Rother just missed adding a fifth title for the WashU men. He finished third in the pole vault with a career-best clearance of 4.65m. The top-three finishers all cleared the same height, but were separated on misses.
