Rookies Lead Brandeis at Tufts

Brandeis University sent a split squad to the Boston University Terrier Classic and the Tufts University Stampede. 

On Saturday at BU, the men's races were highlighted by senior Irie Gourde (Portland, Ore./York School, Canada), who won a pair of heats. In the 400, he ran the fastest time in the UAA and 11th-best in Division III with a mark of 48.98 seconds. He also had the second-best time in the UAA and 34th-fastest in D3 in the 200 with a time of 22.27 seconds.
Junior Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) was the second Division III runner and 27th overall in the 5000-meter run with a personal-best time of 14:50.36, which is tops in the UAA and 13th in Division III. Classmate Liam Garvey (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) also set a PR in the 5K with a time of 15:15.41.
The Judges also sent competitors to Tufts. Leading the way was rookie Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass. / King Phillip Regional) who placed fourth in his collegiate debut in the heptathlon with a score of 4181, which is ranked 29th in Division III. Allan's top events were the 60-meter hurdles (8.79 seconds, 2nd pl, 793 points) and the high jump (1.84m, 2nd pl, 661 pts).
Rookie Churchill Perry (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Westminster Academy) won the triple jump with huge personal best leap of 13.86m (45 feet, 5.75 inches) coming on the final jump. Perry won the event by two-and-a-half inches to take the top spot in the UAA and 25th in Division III.
