Carnegie Mellon Leads UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships After Day 1

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team currently leads the field following the first day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 25.  The Tartans have 39.33 points, as the 2017 championships are being held on the campus of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Junior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) was crowned the UAA Champion in the weight throw with a toss of 15.59 meters. Sophomore Kenny Sladick(Berea, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) placed second in the weight throw after recording a career-best toss of 15.30 meters.

Three Tartans recorded team points for the Tartans in the high jump. Sophomore Reed Farber (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) cleared the bar at 1.89 meters to place second while junior Cameron Smith (Darien, Conn.) and senior Don Boyer (Dover Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) both cleared the bar at 1.84 meters. Smith was awarded fourth place and Boyer sixth on a judges decision.

Senior Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton), sophomore Cam Wilkerson (Fishers, Ind./Saint James), sophomore Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and senior Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) raced to a second-place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:07.18.

Senior Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) earned points for the Tartans on Saturday on the track after placing fifth in the 5,000-meter run. Archer crossed in an indoor career-best time of 15:05.61.
