Spartans Fall to Carnegie Mellon in Ninth Annual Battle for the Obelisk

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field team combined for 125 team points, but fell to University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University in the Ninth-Annual Battle for the Obelisk.

he men's squad gathered six individual titles, with junior Ben Zelkin winning the 60-meter dash (7.21), senior Nathaniel Wahner claiming the win in the 200-meter dash (23.15), junior Andrew Ibibo finishing first in the 400-meter dash (50.60) and junior Grant Mlack grabbing a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.51). Additionally, sophomore Joseph Cabral claimed the win in the 800-meter run (1:57.41) and junior Sam Merriman earned a first-place finish in the 5,000-meter run (15:27.80).

To close the evening, the men's 4x400-meter relay team finished first. Senior Nico Ericksen-Deriso, Ibibo, Cabral and Wahner crossed the line with a time of 3:25.52.
