The New York University men's track & field team took part in the SPIRE North Coast Indoor Open hosted by Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, January 21, in Geneva, OH.
Totaling 58 points, the Violets finished fifth behind host and invitational victor Carnegie Mellon (111).
Captain Caleb Su broke the school record in the 60m dash after registering a time of 6.90 in the preliminaries. He would go on to capture second with a time of 7.12.
Fellow captain Budd Brown secured first in the 200m by posting a time 22.05. Su followed behind in ninth with a time of 23.23. Brown returned to take second in the 400m, clocking a time of 49.69.
"Both of them had amazing days," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "I am very excited about them. They have always been consistent and have done a great job. Caleb is picking off where he left off. Budd seems to be ahead of the curve for the season."
Continuing NYU's success on the track, Neil Saddler and Jorge Maldonado finished hip-to-hip with personal bests in the 3,000m for first (8:34.12) and second (8:37.77) place, respectively. Max Mudd and captain Nick Karam took seventh and ninth with times of 8:52.29 and 8:58.11, respectively.
"Really, really good races," said Hurtault. "Saddler put himself high in the national rankings. Very excited for those guys. They took advantage of the great facility."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The squad of Brown, Fred Lam, Nick Torsitano, and Benjamin Heintz finished fourth in the 4x400m relay (3:28.86).
- Finishing one after the other for fifth and sixth in the 5,000m were Robert DeSisto (16:10.95) and Nathaniel Picard-Busky (16:21.69).
- Khayre Ali landed in ninth with a time of 1:59.55 in the 800m. Heintz finished in 12th, recording a time of 2:00.62.
