Nathaniel Wahner & Spartans' 4x4 Claim Titles on Final Day of UAA Indoor Championships

Case Western Reserve University senior Nathaniel Wahner and the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Wahner, junior Andrew Ibibo, sophomore Joseph Cabral and freshman Jonathan Haling led the Spartans during the second day of the 2017 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field championships hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The CWRU men placed fifth out of seven teams with 58 points. Carnegie Mellon won the conference title for the men with 116.33 points, followed by Emory (80), Chicago (77.33) and Washington (74.33).

Wahner ran a time of 48.89 in the finals of the 400-meter dash to win the UAA Title in the event, becoming the first Spartan since 2014 to win the title in the 400-meter dash. Wahner's time of 48.89 also set a new school-record in the event, besting Wahner's previous mark of 49.44 set yesterday in the preliminaries.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team ran a time of 3:22.56 to win the UAA Title in the event, becoming the first ever CWRU's men's relay team to win the event.

The CWRU men had six other athletes score on Sunday. Junior Grant Mlack in the 55-meter hurdles (fourth, 7.92), junior Alex Nesvisky in the shot put (fourth, 13.79 meters), junior Zak Hurd in the 55-meter dash (fifth, 6.72), Merriman in the 3,000-meter run (fifth, 8:36.44), Wahner in the 200-meter dash (sixth, 25.07) and Ibibo in the 400-meter dash (sixth, 50.95).

Altogether, the Spartans accumulated 10 All-UAA honors during the meet, including UAA Championships from Laios in the weight throw and shot put, Wahner in the 400-meter dash and the men's 4x400-meter relay.
