Tartans Win Seven Events at Bob Shannon Invitational and Claim Third Consecutive Team Title

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational on Saturday, February 3 and won the event for the third straight season with 183 points. Rio Grande was second with 77.5 points.

In the 5,000-meter run, freshman Naveen Pai (Palo Alto, Calif.) took first after crossing the finish line in 15:20.22 while sophomore Harry Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) placed second with a time of 15:30.70. The Cardinal and Gray also claimed the top two spots in the 3,000-meter run when junior Andrew Harter (Saratoga, Calif.) finished with a time of 8:50.05 and junior Will Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.) crossed in 8:57.15.

The mile run saw the Tartans place first and third with freshman Arthur Dzieniszewski (Old Bridge, N.J.) winning the event with a time of 4:22.19. Sophomore Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) placed third in 4:23.62.

Senior Evan Larrick (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.54 while the distance medley relay team also claimed top honors. The freshmen team of Muhamed Bicic (Middle Village, N.Y./Townsend Harris), Michael Cai (Dumont, N.J./Bergen County Academies), Michael Cabral (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) and Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) crossed in 10:43.25.

Senior Tommy Mansfield (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) and freshman Alex Liu (Amber, Pa./Upper Dublin) cleared the bar at 4.40 meters and 4.25 meters in the pole vault to place first and second. Sophomore Rai Walters (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) jumped 6.50 meters to win the long jump.
