UAA Announces 2018 UAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Awards

Graduate student Irie Gourde of Brandeis University and senior Jacob Schofel of Carnegie Mellon University earned the top honors as the UAA announced the award winners for the 2018 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Gourde, who was selected as Most Outstanding Performer for running events, earned his first UAA title in the 200-meter dash in 22.54 seconds after recording a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash in 49.03 seconds. He anchored the Judges' third-place 1,600-meter relay (3;25.80).

Schofel, the Most Outstanding Performer for field events, won his third career weight throw title with a mark of 16.75 meters and placed third in the shot put with an indoor personal best throw of 14.11 meters.

Marvin Bennett, Jr. of the Tartans was named UAA Rookie of the Year after winning the 60-meter dash in a program record time of 6.99 seconds. He also qualified for the 200-meter dash final, where he completed the race with an injured hamstring.

Head coach Jeff Stiles and his staff were named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for leading the Bears to the men's title for the seventh time in 10 seasons.
