NYU Competes at Metropolitan Championships

The New York University men's track & field team competed at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, February 2, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Center on Staten Island, NY.

In a meet where NYU's opponents represented New York Metropolitan area NCAA Division I programs, the Violets finished in ninth place (of 15 teams) with a total score of 28 points.

Individually, Neil Saddler had the squad's best performance, running the 3,000m in a time of 8:27.15 and taking second place. That was worth eight points for the Violets. Teammate Brandon Shirazi took sixth in the event, compiling another three points.

"Great performance from Neil," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault."

NYU piled up most of its team points in the relays. The Violets finished fourth in the distance medley relay (10:19.41), sixth in the 4x800m (8:15.50) and seventh in the 4X400m (3:28.18). That was worth a total of 10 points. Only the top eight across the line score points for their respective teams.
 
The Violets had a large presence in the 5,000m, with Jordan Reyes earning a point for the team with his eighth-place finish (15:33.97). Also competing in the event for NYU was Julian Marrufo (12th place, 16:18.55) and Robert Beit (13th, 16:19.66).

Three runners also competed for the Violets in the mile. Ben Karam (16th, 4:26.63), Max Mudd (18th, 4:30.12) and Ben Haderle (19th, 4:31.34) all posted top-20 finishes. 

In the 1,000m, a trio of Violets posted top-15 finishes: Karn Setya (11th, 2:35.24), Robert DeSisto (13th, 2:36.0) and Vince Booth (14th, 2:36.57).

To open the day, a pair of Violets competed in the long jump, with Yohan Su (6.35m) and Joshua Bunch(6.32m) finishing 12th and 13th, respectively.

Also out on the field, Ezra Grimes finished 17th in the shot put with a toss of 8.10 meters.
