NYU Competes at Princeton Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's track & field team, traveled to Princeton, NJ, on Saturday, February 17, to compete at the Princeton Invitational.

NYU's veteran distance runners produced some outstanding results. In a career-best performance, junior Ben Haderle won the 3,000m, pacing the Violets with his personal-best time of 8:48.80.

"That was an impressive run on a flat track," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "He is one of those guys that has good potential. He is on the upswing at this point of the season."

A trio of freshmen, Dillan Spector, Jonathan Sussman and Samuel Klein, also impressed in the 3,000m with finishes of fifth (8:58.80), seventh (9:03.34) and eighth (9:08.75), respectively. All three distance runners posted season-best times.

Also taking gold on Saturday was Zachary Adams in the triple jump. The freshman from Stratham, NH, posted a season-best jump of 12.82m in his fourth attempt to win the event.

Not to be outdone, some of the sprinters also produced impressive performances. Freshman Shawn Andrade placed fourth in the 400m by recording a time of 53.57. Junior Daniel Sovich followed behind in sixth with a time of 54.28.

Other Highlights:

- Senior Karn Setya posted a career-best time of 4:22.21 in the mile to finish fourth. The West Windsor, NJ, native missed making it to the podium by only half a second. Trailing behind in seventh and eighth places were sophomore Ben Karam (4:25.49) and senior Robert DeSisto (4:25.99), respectively.

- The 200m saw freshman Jonathan Coaxum take 10th place with a personal-best time of 24.13. Sovich returned to finish in 13th, registering a time of 24.58.

- Three freshmen finished in the top 10 of the long jump with Isaac Floyd leading the group in fourth place with a distance of 7.30m.

"The jump squad for the men are doing incredibly well," said Hurtault. "Floyd earlier in the season had some injury trouble, but he was able to jump and put himself in a good position in the UAAs. We are looking to be a threat in all three of the jumps."

The Violets will return to action next Saturday, February 24, when they travel to compete at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships, hosted this year by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

"I am happy about how people competed for the final spots for the UAA," continued Hurtault. "Things are tight for the men's side. Everyone should bring that same attitude. Everyone needs to put more on the line next week."
