The New York University men's track & field team competed at the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Saturday, January 27, in Boston, MA.
Senior Malcolm Montilus paced NYU in the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 49.50 and an 18th-place finish. Younger brother Julian Montilus followed behind in 70th. The sophomore clocked a time of 51.85.
"I think Malcolm is showing that he hasn't missed a step," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "I am really excited with what he showed today. Julian also had a great season-opener. I am excited about his potential. For this part of the season, I am very happy where they are."
The elder Montilus returned to contribute to the 4x400m relay team that finished 21st, posting a time of 3:29.68. Sophomore Grayson Hepp and junior Soham Kamat were the respective leadoff and third legs, while senior Vince Booth anchored the relay.
In distance, junior Brandon Shirazi led NYU in the mile by finishing 64th (4:19.86). Trailing behind were seniors Karn Setya, Robert DeSisto and Max Mudd in 100th (4:27.91), 104th (4:29.00) and 114th place (4:30.86), respectively.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sophomore William Lee, NYU's record-holder in the high jump, tied for 11th with a height of 1.85m.
- Freshman Zachary Adams posted a a triple jump of 12.56m to place 21st.
- The senior-sophomore duo of Jordan Reyes and Ben Karam finished at each other's heels in the 3,000m, finishing 78th (8:49.98) and 80th (8:52.62), respectively.
"The whole team is starting to put together performances where we want them to be," said Hurtault. "This was an improvement from last week. That's what we want to see...continuous improvement."
