Nathaniel Wahner Breaks CWRU Records on Day 1of NCAA Indoor Championship

Case Western Reserve University senior sprinter Nathaniel Wahner competed on the first day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Al B. Garius Track Facility on the campus of North Central College.

Competing in his first indoor national meet, Wahner competed in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. Overall, 15 student-athletes competed in each of the events with the top eight qualifying for the finals tomorrow.

Wahner was seeded 10th in the 400-meter dash entering the meet with a school-record time of 48.89. He placed 13th in the 400-meter preliminaries with a time of 49:82.

In the 200-meter dash, Wahner entered the meet seeded 15th with another school-record time of 22.23. He finished ninth in the 200-meter preliminaries with a time of 22:11, a new school-record.

Before the beginning of this month, Wahner claimed the title in the 400-meter dash at the 2017 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships. He became the first Spartan since 2014 to win the title in the 400-meter dash. Wahner owns indoor school records in the 55-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash, while also earning a UAA Track Athlete of the Week honor earlier this season.
