Eleven Washington Runners Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's cross country teams were among the 141 programs in NCAA Division III to have both teams recognized with All-Academic Team honors, and 11 WUSTL runners were among those who earned Division III All-Academic honors for the 2013 cross country season, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA).

The Washington University men posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.65, which ranked third among the 146 NCAA Division III men's teams who earned All-Academic Team honors. Amherst College and Ithaca College tied for the highest team GPAs (3.66) among the men's programs. Washington U. was among 215 Division III women's programs to earn the All-Academic Team honors, posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.60. Whitworth College reported the highest team GPA among women's teams at 3.84. The WUSTL men's and women's programs both had the top GPAs among the seven University Athletic Association (UAA) programs recognized.

In addition to the team recognition, Washington University had 11 student-athletes earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. The six honorees for the Washington U. men was tied with Williams College, Calvin College and Wabash College for the most by any Division III men's program. Senior Kevin Sparks (3.54) and junior Garrett Patrick (3.74) were repeat selections from 2012. They were joined on the list by junior Drew Padgett (3.69), senior Elliott Petterson (3.87), freshman Ethan Brodeur (3.80) and junior Ryan Senci.

In order to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a team must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.10 through the fall semester. USTFCCCA All-Academic honors are given to individuals who have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and who placed in the top 25 percent at their respective NCAA Regional Championships. A total of 308 student-athletes representing 129 institutions earned All-Academic status on the women's side, while 228 men's student-athletes from 98 institutions were honored.
