Brandeis Defends Emmanuel Fens Classic Title

The Brandeis University men's cross country team successfully defended its title today at the 2014 Emmanuel College Fens Classic. The Judges placed six of the top 10 runners to win the seven-team race by 22 points over runners-up Roger Williams University, 23-45.

First to cover the three-mile course for the Judges was senior co-captain Jarret Harrigan(Ipswich, Mass./St. Johns Prep). Harrigan ran a time of 15:21 to come in second, edged at the finish by a runner from second-place RWU. It marked the second-straight year that Harrigan missed winning the race by one spot, after coming in behind Ed Colvin '14 last year.

Placing third overall and second for the Judges was sophomore Quinton Hoey(Watertown, Conn./Watertown), who finished with a time of 15:25 in his first trip on the Fenway course. After a second Roger Williams racer crossed the line in fourth, two Brandeis rookies were next. In their first collegiate race, Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) ran 15:35, while Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) finished in 15:49, to place fifth and sixth.

Another runner, from Lesley University, separated the next two Brandeis runners, as junior Grady Ward (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) placed eighth in 15:46, while freshmanLiam Garvey (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) was ninth in 15:49. Rookie Brian Sheppard (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) was the team's seventh runner, coming in 13th with a time of 16:03.
