Senior Sebastian Oja of the New York University men's cross country team took part in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, which was hosted by Wilmington College in Mason, OH, on Saturday, November 22.

Oja, who gained an individual bid for the nationals after placing second at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship last weekend, finished 100th in the 8K race with a time of 25:21.8.

Grant Wintheiser from St. Olaf College won the 280-person competition in 23:44.9.

"Sebastian just went out too hard," explained Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "He started the race aggressively and was pressing a little too hard to hold it until the finish. The course was different from what he experienced here at the Pre-Nationals. It was a lot more muddy this time."

NYU cross country wrapped up its first season with Boylan-Pett as the Head Coach, but most of the runners will be back competing for the track & field team in January.

"During the track season, Oja will focus on the 10,000m," said Boylan-Pett. "My first season with the team was all about learning, both on my side and on the athletes' side. We were a little unfortunate with injuries, both with the men's and women's teams. But, we're already looking forward to next season."
