NYU Places Fourth at Pre-National Meet in Ohio

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's cross country team took part in the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals, hosted by Wilmington College at Kings Island Golf Course in Mason, OH, on Saturday, September 27.

The Violets placed fourth in the 31-team race with a total of 135 points. The North Central College runners swept the first four individual places in the 8K race, guaranteeing their school first place (16 points). SUNY Geneseo took second with 91 points, Loras College was third with 103 points.

"It was a good competition; out first big invitational meet of the season," said Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "The men's race went out really hard. We don't have that kind of a speed just yet, because we're in more of a strength-based stage of training, but our runners held their heads up and performed well on the second half of the course. Our top two runners finished in the top-15 -- this is a good result."

Senior Sebastian Oja made it into the top-10, finishing seventh among 374 runners with a time of 24:06.09.

The race was held at the course that will host the NCAA Division III Championship in November.

"As you can see from today's results, the course is pretty fast," said Boylan-Pett. "It had a lot of turns because the races were held at a golf course. But it's definitely a well prepped course."

Highlights:

Senior Johnny Lake was just one second away from the top-10. He took 11th place with a time of 24:12.47.

Other scorers for the Violets were freshman Max Mudd (24:56.50, 41st), junior Daniel Rieger (25:00.46, 43rd) and senior Dharan Kadiyala (25:11.47, 54th).
