Ethan Pacheck of Rochester Named Academic All-American

Ethan Pacheck of Rochester Named Academic All-American

From University of Rochester Athletics

As an athlete and an outstanding student at the University of Rochester, Ethan Pacheck learned how to organize and to succeed. He's been handsomely rewarded for that diligence.

Pacheck was elected to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Team for men's cross country and track and field. Voting for the honor was conducted among members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. He is a native of Baldwinsville, N.Y. and an alumnus of C.W. Baker High School.

It establishes a strong family bond. Ethan's brother, Adam, was elected to the same Academic All-America team last season.

Ethan Pacheck is the sixth Rochester student to earn Academic All-America honors this year. CoSIDA received a total of 5,061 nominations from Division III schools during the 2014-15 academic year. The organization reported that 21.2% of the nominees earned All-District honors and 9.2% received the Academic All-America designation.

Over the course of his career at Rochester, Ethan earned a total of nine varsity letters for cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. In the winter season, he ran on the Distance Medley Relay which broke the school record with a time of 10:03.85. That time placed the Yellowjackets among the Top 25 DMR teams in Division III.

Pacheck earned six medals for his finishes at the New York State championships and three for his performance at the ECAC Championships. He is listed on Rochester's all-time Top 10 performance list in seven events.

He earned his degree in Chemical Engineering with minors in Chemistry and Environmental Engineering. He had a 3.93 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale.

At Rochester's annual athletics awards banquet on April 30, Pacheck received the Peter DiPasquale Award, given to the top male scholar-athlete of the senior class. This was the first year that the award was presented in the name of DiPasquale. He is a 1952 graduate of the University who played football. He was inducted into Rochester's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.

Pacheck was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the internationally-renowned honor society, in April. He is a member of Tau Bet6a Pi, the engineering honor society, and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He held three scholarships as an undergraduate and was a teaching assistant for five classes – one in music and four in chemistry.

This summer, he will do research on nuclear engineering at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory near Knoxville, Tenn. In the fall, he will begin study for his PhD in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan.
