Tartans Take Title at UAA Men's Cross Country Championship

The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team won the 2015 University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 31 at Franklin Park in Massachusetts. The meet was hosted by Brandeis University and saw the Tartans place five runners in the top 20 to win the race by 15 points. The meet victory marks the third time in school history the Tartans have won the UAA Championships.

The Tartans were led by junior Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) who finished third overall in a time of 25:08. Freshman William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) wasn't far behind and finished eighth overall in 25:28 while senior Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) also crossed at 25:28 and took 10th place.

Senior Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) crossed the finish line in 25:39 to place 14th before junior Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) took 18th place in 25:43.

Also playing a key role in the Tartans' victory was sophomore Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and freshman Aaditya Mhatre (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan). Auld came in 26th place in 25:52 while Mhatre was two seconds behind him in 29th place.

Archer earned All-UAA First Team for his finish while Mitchell, Bollens and Julien each earned All-UAA Second Team with Mitchell taking UAA Rookie of the Year honors.

The previous two UAA Championships for the men came in 1989 and 2005.
