The Emory men’s cross country team came through with a solid outing on Friday at the Charlotte Invitational. The competition was held at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC.

The 32nd-ranked men’s side finished runner-up out of 11 teams, registering 56 points, second only to host and Division I member Charlotte’s total of 27 points. SCAD Savannah was third with 83 points while Milligan (124 pts.) and the College of Charleston (125 pts.) were fourth and fifth, respectively. After establishing a personal best in the team’s previous competition at the Furman Classic (Sept. 12), senior Lukas Mees raced to another career-best 8K time at the Charlotte Invitational, leading all of the field’s 107 runners with a time of 25:25. 

Junior Grant Murphy was the next Eagle to cross the finish line with his effort of 26:03 ranking eighth overall. Sophomore Michael Sisario ranked third among the Emory pack and 13th overall, clocking a personal-best 26:26. Junior Jake Schlessinger recorded his best 8K outing during his Emory career, finishing 20th overall with a time of 26:43. Rounding out the team’s scorers was freshman Bennett Shaw at 26:46, placing him 21st.
