The New York University men's cross country team opened its 2015 campaign at the Saratoga Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Saturday, September 13.

The Violets took second in the team standings by accumulating 47 points. They finished behind only St. Lawrence University (33 points) in the 21-team competition.

"Today was a great start to the season. The men ran strong today," said second-year Head Coach Will Boylan Pett. "They have a very high ceiling. With the amount of talent on this team, we are looking to not only go to nationals but to also finish strong."

Sophomore runner Karn Setya was the best finisher among the Violets. He placed fourth in a time of 19:14.8 over the 6k course. Freshman Matt Osubor took eighth in his collegiate debut with a time of 19:23.5. He was followed by junior Jorge Maldonado, who finished ninth in 19:25.4.

"Karn is going to be huge. He seems to be tapping into the runner we knew he could be since last year," Boylan-Pett added. "Matt is a stud. He is going to be extremely important to us if we want to build on this success."

Overall, 302 runners competed.

Highlights:
