Yellowjackets Finish In Top Half of Field at Pre-Regional

The University of Rochester men's cross country team placed 18th of 38 schools at the Mike Woods Geneseo Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Letchworth State Park.
 
The Yellowjackets recorded 475 points in the event.  Host SUNY Geneseo were the team champions with 42 points, followed by St. Lawrence (103), RPI (203) and Hamilton (210).
 
Rochester was led by junior Dan Nolte who ran the 8k course in 26:18.2, finishing in 78th place.  Classmate Eric Franklin was the 2nd UR finisher in 109th place running in 26:31.7.
 
Overall, 534 runners competed in the event which serves as a pre-regional for the NCAA Atlantic Regional coming up in November.
 
Freshman Forrest Hangen placed 115th as Rochester's third runner, crossing the stripe in 26:36.5.  He was followed by senior Jeremy Hassett in 130th (26:46.3) and junior Jake Greenberg in 138th (26:50.2).
 
UR's displacers were freshman Benjamin Martell in 148th, earning a time of 26:54.0 while Mintesinot Kassu was the 7th UR runner, placing 151st in 26:55.6.
 
Benjamin Fazio of RPI was the overall race winner, crossing the finish in 24:46.6, winning by over six seconds.
