The Brandeis University cross country teams successfully defended their titles in the season-opening Emmanuel Fens Classic. The 33rd-ranked women turned in a perfect score to win the meet for the third year in a row, while the men were one point shy of a top-five sweep to win their third-straight crown.
FOR THE MEN
- The Judges took the top four spots and sixth place to finish with 16 points.
- Juniors dominated for Brandeis. Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) won the meet with a time of 15:53 over the five-kilometer course.
- Liam Garvey (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) was second in 16:10.
- Brian Sheppard (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) took third in 16:17.
- Russell Santos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) was fourth in 16:19.
- Sophomore Eli Waxler (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) was the final scorer in sixth place with a time of 16:26.
- Senior Brad Payne (Westport, Conn./Staples) and rookie Sam Reich (New York, N.Y./H.S. of American Studies at Lehman College) rounded out the top 7, finishing 8thand 11th overall with times of 16:39 and 16:55.
