The New York University men's cross country team took part in Williams College's Purple Valley Classic on Saturday, September 24. Contingents of the team either competed in the 5K race or the 8K race in Williamstown, MA.
NYU placed ninth in the 8K totaling 239 points overall to trail Dickinson College in eighth by two points. SUNY Geneseo claimed first with 48 points.
Junior Jorge Maldonado again paced the Violets by finishing in 12th with a time of 25:52.6. Sophomore Matt Osubor crossed the line in 45th place (26:41.8).
"Very, very competitive race. Jorge has been working hard these weeks and it's showing," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "I think he would have wanted a better finish, but we are going to be fine with the result."
NYU did not have enough runners in the 5k to qualify for a placement racing only junior Karn Setya and senior Curtis Mann. The pair finished close together in the top-20 posting times of 16:52.0 (13th) and 16:56.8 (15th), respectively.
"Both of them had solid races," stated Hurtault. "It was Karn's first race. He will be looking to improve week by week building off today."
