CWRU Places Fourth at Allegheny Classic

The Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team finished in fourth place at the Allegheny Classic on Saturday morning in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

The Spartans finished the meet with 78 points, placing first-place Carnegie Mellon (17th in Division III) with 46 points, and host Allegheny and Division II Indiana (Pa.), who tied for second place with 71 points apiece.

Case Western Reserve was led by a return-to-form performance from senior Sam Merriman, who led the squad for the first time this season, finishing in eighth-place in the field of 133 runners in the four-mile race with a time of 20:29.  A pack of three Spartans followed closely behind, with senior Aidan DeSanto placing 17th in a time of 20:48, senior Zach Roshon in 20th with a time of 20:58, and freshman Nathan Mack in 23rd in a time of 21:12. 

The team's fifth scorer was sophomore Andrew Green, who finished 28th with a time of 21:21, while senior Ben Whitman (30th place, 21:24) and senior James Gibson (32nd place, 21:24), rounded out the Spartans' top-seven.

Allegheny's John Hughes won the meet with an overall time of 20:03.
