Emory Takes Fifth At Furman Classic

The No. 21-ranked Emory men's cross country team made a fine accounting of itself Saturday morning at the 5th Annual Furman Classic.  The meet was conducted on the Furman University Golf Course.

The Eagles came in fifth out of 14 squads, registering 154 points.  Host Furman rolled to the No. 1 spot with 25 points with Mount Olive taking home runner-up status with 53 points.  Clemson (96 pts.) and Lee University (103 pts.) stood third and fourth, respectively.

Junior Bennett Shaw turned in a personal-best 8k time at the Classic, with his 25:34 pacing the Emory pack and ranking 21st in the 175-runner field.  Sophomore Marty Pimentel crossed the finish line in the No. 34 slot, registering a 26:07 that established his best time.  Senior Shane Sullivan was the Eagles' No. 3 scorer and 40th overall, turning in a performance of 26:28.  Rounding out the Emory scorers were freshman Matthew Burke (26:37, 45th) and sophomore Sam Branson (26:42, 51st).
