UAA Announces 30th Anniversary Men’s Cross Country Team

The University Athletic Association has announced its 30th Anniversary Men's Cross Country Team. Forty-six student-athletes earned the honor, including at least two runners from each institution.

The team consists of each student-athlete who finished as Individual Champion or accumulated five or more points in his career, with two points awarded for All-Association first-team recognition, and one point for second-team honors.

Among those honored are repeat Cross Country Individual Champion honorees Andrew Evans (1996-97) of University of Rochester, Tim Julien (1998-99) of Washington University, Tom Haxton (2002-03) of University of Chicago, and Michael Burnstein (2010-11) of Washington.

Evans is one of 10 Rochester runners to make the 30th Anniversary Team, the most of any school. Five different Yellowjackets earned Individual Champion honors in the six years before Evans won back-to-back titles. Joe Mello (1990), Jim Dunlop (1991), Christian Reed (1992), Jason Hart (1994), and Todd Reeser (1995) all captured Individual Champion honors.

Evans was the only student-athlete to earn first-team All-Association honors in four consecutive years. Jeff Calabrese of Emory University and Julien each received first-team accolades three times and second-team honors once.

Aaron Holley, Rusty Nelson, and Robert Olson (Brandeis); Brian Harvey (Carnegie Mellon University); Hany Abdallah, Dylan Karten, and Jesse Schneider (NYU); Haxton and Patrick Sullivan (Chicago); Hart, Reed, and Anthony Kerr (Rochester); and Brennan Bonner of Washington all ran to first-team honors in three consecutive seasons.

In 30 years, 29 UAA teams have finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship. NYU (2007) and Rochester (1991) won national championships. The Yellowjackets finished no lower than eighth in nine consecutive NCAA championships from 1988-1996. Brandeis has recorded four top-10 finishes, including two fourth-place finishes. Washington has recorded a top-10 finish in seven of the past eight NCAA championships. In addition to its national title, NYU has also finished second (2006), fourth (2009), and 10th (2010) at the NCAA championship.
