The New York University men's cross country team continued its 2017 campaign at the Columbia University Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, NY, on Friday, September 8.

After winning their first meet of the season last week, the Violets finished fourth among four teams, competing against three Division I foes in first-place Brown University, second-place Cornell University and third-place Columbia.

"Today was about running a full 8,000m, tough course like we are going to see later in the season," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault.

Ben Karam paced the way for NYU with a 24th-place finish in a time of 27:36.30.

In 34th and 35th places were Karn Setya and Jordan Reyes. The seniors finished hip-to-hip by recording times of 28:04.20 and 28:05.70, respectively.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Julian Marrufo and sophomore Benjamin Heintz crossed the line in 39th and 40th place, respectively, with times of 28:25.40 and 28:26.40.

- NYU's first freshman finisher was Dillan Spector in 42nd with a time of 28:32.60.

- Senior Robert Beit and sophomore Jack Lillian rounded out the group of Violet competitors with 48th- (28:42.40) and 50th- (28:43.40) place finishes.

NYU will return to action on Friday, September 29, when the team travels to Eastern Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Invitational, an annual event hosted by Lehigh University.

"Now we have a few weeks off where the guys will train hard to be ready for the stretch run later this month and into October," added Hurtault.
