The New York University men's cross country kicked off its season at the Vassar College Season Starter on Friday, September 1, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The Violets opened the year by capturing first place of four teams, posting a score of 34 in the 4K race. Host Vassar followed in second with a score 43.
"You can never complain about a win," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "The team looks excited. We had a younger crew out there. Coach (John) Trautman has them prepared."
Junior Ben Haderle paced the way for NYU with a third-place finish. The Los Gatos, CA, native posted a time of 13:07.8. Not far behind was senior Jordan Reyes and freshman Jonathan Sussman in fifth (13:09.0) and seventh place (13:13.3), respectively.
"Haderle is coming off of an injury, and Reyes was abroad last spring. It was good to have them back," said Hurtault. "Sussman was our first freshman finisher. It was impressive what he was able to do."
