From University of Rochester Athletics
The University of Rochester men's cross country team battled with some of the top teams in NCAA Division III on Saturday in its first inter-regional competition of the season at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic.
UR ended in 19th place of 26 teams entered in the event scoring a total of 543 points. A slew of nationally ranked squads finished near the top of the team standings, with #2 SUNY Geneseo earning the win, #14 RPI placing second, #15 Amherst finishing third, #18 Middlebury fourth and host and #4 Williams winding out the top-5 teams.
The Yellowjackets were led in the 8K race by Hunter Phinney who finished the course in 28:24.7, good for 114th palce of 324 runners. Teammate Ivan Frantz was 127th in 28:35.1.
Ryley Robinson crossed the finish in 29:03.0, placing 173rd in the race while Nate Conroy was right behind him in 174th, earning a time of 29:03.2. The final Yellowjacket scorer in the varsity race was Andrew Faulstich who placed 177th in 29:05.2.
The two UR displacers were Ankur Desai in 186th (29:10.4) and Christopher Dalke in 222nd (29:39.7).
Rochester also held its own in the non-varsity 5K open event held earlier in the day at the Mount Greylock High School course. Benjamin Martell finished 7th among 79 runners in 16:50.0 while Dan Allara was 8th in 16:55.4.
Alphonse Mugisha placed 14th in 17:21.1 while Leo Orsini and Sam Trawick placed 16th and 18th respectively. Orsini's time was 17:29.0 while Trawick finished in 17:34.8. Collin Gwilt was 24th.
