From Washington University Athletics
The Washington University in St. Louis men's cross country team placed fifth overall in the Principia College Cowbell Classic on Saturday morning, during a hot and humid race on the North Farm Cross Country Course.
The men placed fifth out of 38 teams competing, which included 17 teams ranked in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top-35 poll. Claiming the event was No. 1-ranked North Central followed by No. 2 Geneseo, No. 5 Pomona Pitzer, No. 11 Loras and No. 8 WashU to round out the top-five.
Senior David O'Gara had the highest individual finish among the Bears when he crossed the 8K finish line in 25:03.80. Junior Peter Johnsrud was next to conclude the course for the men finishing in 28th place with a time of 25:42.94. Sophomore Marco Quaroni(26:03.13) finished just ahead of sophomore Nick Matteucci (26:04.36) as he encouraged his teammate across the finish line.
Freshman Tucker Cera posted the fifth and final time to count for the Bears when he crossed the line at 26:29.60. Seconds later freshman Joe Stover (26:34.51) crossed the finish line as did junior Chris Blagg (26:37.52) to finish within the top-100 racers out of more than 354 entries.
